Silver production in Peru down 9.6% in February 2022, ministry says
LIMA (Apr 7) According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM), silver production in Peru, the world’s third largest silver producing country, was 242,849 kg in February 2022, a decline of 9.6% compared to 268,732 kg mined in February 2021.
MINEM said that this decrease was mainly due to the lower silver production volume reported by Compañía Minera Ares S.A.C. (-21.7%) and Minera Chinalco Perú S.A. (-12.7%).
At the company level, Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. was the largest silver producer in Peru accounting for 17.1% share of the country’s total silver production, followed by Compañía Minera Ares S.A.C. (8.6%) and Volcan Compañía Minera S.A.A. (7.3%).
At the regional level, Áncash maintained its first position accounting for 21.3% of Peru’s total silver production, followed by Pasco (19.0%) and Junín (16.3%).
