U.S. uranium production in 2021 was 6 tonnes or 0.03% of domestic nuclear energy needs

Washington (Feb 8)  According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the domestic production of uranium concentrate (U3O8) in the fourth quarter of 2021 totaled 9,978 pounds U3O8, which is equivalent to approximately 4 tonnes of uranium.

EIA said that while fourth quarter 2021 production is 88% higher than the third quarter total (5,297 pounds), it is 98% lower than the 2015-2019 five-year range for the fourth quarter (fourth quarter 2020 data was not published).

According to the quarterly data disclosed by the EIA, uranium production in the United States amounted to approximately 6 tonnes in 2021.

For comparison, the World Nuclear Association reported that nuclear industry in the United States consumed 17,587 tonnes of uranium in 2021 for its fleet of 93 nuclear power reactors.
